Westinghouse iGen2200 Review – [Ideal Inverter Generator For camping]
In this article, we have given an honest review of the Westinghouse iGen2200 generator based on noise and load test, portability and weight, fuel economy, and reliability. I have also covered whether you should buy it or not.
Westinghouse iGen2200 is a portable, lightweight, powerful, ultra-quiet, reliable, durable, budget-friendly, and fuel-efficient machine that belongs to the series of successful inverter generators designed for RVs and camping.
Westinghouse iGen2200 is one of the highest sold 2000 watt generators due to higher output packed in a compact and portable body which is ideal for campers and outdoor enthusiasts.
This generator doesn’t have an eco-mode but instead, it has an efficient mode to save fuel when we are not running power-consuming equipment, because Westinghouse iGen2200 is using a very advanced engine that automatically adjusts its speed according to the power demand.
That is why it will provide a runtime of approximately 12 hours on a 25% load. The engine senses the load and reduces its speed to meet the power demand.
Firstly, it weighs around 46 pounds which makes it fairly lightweight. It can easily be by carried one person.
Secondly, it is like a small suitcase with a compact body and a carry handle on the top to carry it like a suitcase. If space is a concern for you, Westinghouse iGen2200 does not take much space which makes it ideal for campers.
So out of the box, you will get a measured oil bottle, a funnel, an instructional manual, a couple of tools, and a generator itself.
Let’s talk about the noise test that I conducted.
Noise Test Of Westinghouse iGen2200 Generator:
- With efficiency mode ON from 5 feet away, the noise was around 64 to 65dB.
- With efficiency mode OFF from 5 feet away, the noise is around 66 to 68dB.
- With efficiency mode OFF from 20 feet away, the noise is around 58dB.
- With efficiency mode OFF from 20 feet away under 1400 watt load, the noise is around 66 to 69dB
It wasn’t that noisy from 30 to 40 feet even under load, but it not quieter than a HONDA generator. It is not bad for outdoor usage like camping.
I test the noise in my backyard with almost pin-drop silence so you should expect a quieter performance.
Load Test And Runtime Of Westinghouse iGen2200 Generator:
I gave it a load of approximately 1500 watts on the efficiency mode of my electric heater. At that load, it gave me around 9 hours before it ran out of gas.
Later, I managed to pull 2180 peak watts, and 1790 running watts before the overload alarm.
After that, I gave it exactly 25% load of some of the small appliances to check whether it can really provide 12 hours or not.
As a result, I got around 12 hours and 10 minutes at 25% on a full tank (non-ethanol. So the load test was a success.
My Westinghouse iGen2200 generator was brand new at that time. The performance of generators tends to decrease over time, but with Westinghouse, it won’t exponentially drop so nothing to worry about.
Maintenance is also simple in this generator. A spark plug is located behind a removable cover. Use the measured oil bottle as a baseline when it is time to change the oil.
Westinghouse iGen2200 vs HONDA EU2200i:
Honda EU2200i is almost twice the price of Westinghouse iGen2200 while producing similar power output.
HONDA generators are significantly quieter and much more durable, but the fuel economy, weight, portability, performance, and reliability are the same for both.
So instead of investing $1000+, you can spend half on Westinghouse iGen2200.

If you are looking for something for camping, or a portable generator that can support a fridge, small AC unit, and other small appliances, Westinghouse iGen2200 is for you. It is half the price of the Honda EU2200i with similar performance.
This is going to be a smart purchase for you if you are looking for a camping unit and something that won’t disturb the neighbors.
